Today we are talking to Janie Lawson, founder of the Glam Hatters and we couldn’t be more excited. Her resume is impressive; features in Vogue, Elle, and Glamour to name a few. What impresses us more is she turned her passion for hat making into a highly successful business. In fact, Glam Hatters has workshops for UK brides and bridesmaids that make for the perfect hen party. Don’t worry if you can’t get to a UK workshop, Janie is going to share with us some DIY Fascinator tutorials.
Janie, thank you so much for talking with us! Please tell us more about your business.

Can you give us a little background into the tradition of fascinators at weddings?
It’s a very British thing to wear a fascinator or hat to a wedding. These days if you haven’t got something on your head you look a little under-dressed! Since Philip Treacy spotlighted his first catwalk collection in the early 90’s, fascinators have catapulted to the top of the stylish list for wedding goers. All hail Philip for bringing a new generation of milliners to the forefront of British design!
As a bride, you have a million things on your to do list before walking down the aisle. One of the things that should be fun is creating gift bags for your bridesmaids. Obviously you couldn’t imagine your wedding day without them, so you’ll want to find perfect items to show your appreciation.
Well there’s always booze (champagne, yay!), jewelry, and gift cards. However, we’re here to help you create the Ultimate Bridesmaid Gift Bag, and it takes some really special gifts to make our list.
The most important part of creating the perfect gift bag is to make sure it’s something your bridesmaids will want to use again and again. Gifts that will remind them of the joy of your wedding, long after the day is gone.
To help inspire you, we have teamed up with some amazing companies to create our own Ultimate Bridesmaid Gift Bag. Even more exciting is we’ve giving you a chance to win one of your own! (Giveaway ended May 17, 2017 but read on for discount codes.)
From make your own mimosa, to signature cocktails, to wine tastings, DIY bars are the hottest here-to-stay trend at bridal showers and bachelorette parties. The best part is, you can be as simple or elaborate as you want when deciding your decor for the bar setup. Our personal favorite are gold foil prints, like this “pour one more” sign from StaceyHolbrookDesign.
That’s why we’re so excited to announce an amazing giveaway of two of her gold foil prints! Before we give you all the details on how to win, check out what she had to say during our Q&A.
Nobody ever said a wedding day was without a few imperfect moments. Sometimes these moments are stressful, and other times they are just down right hysterical. As professional as wedding photographers are, they have their small moments of insanity on wedding day.
Trying to gather groups of people in order to check off all the bride’s “must have shots” can be a challenge. That is why it’s easy for us to laugh at the absurd things they sometimes say to get that perfect shot.
When talking to the couple….
If you want the bride and groom to walk away from you while holding hands that’s fine. Directing them into that pose by saying “I want to get you from behind” is just a little creepy.
We’ve all heard of, and fear, a Bridezilla. You know, a bride who wants everything her way and will make everyone’s life around her a nightmare if it doesn’t happen. On the flip side there is also the term Bridechilla, referring to a bride so chill that she just lets the day unfold around her with no complaints. A new term that you may not have heard: Bridesmaidzilla.
For the purposes of this article we are defining Bridesmaidzilla as a Bridesmaid who, knowingly or not, makes the wedding day about them. They’re extremely rude in general and usually cause lots of unnecessary drama. Don’t worry though, we’re here to tell you stories so you can figure out if you have the potential to be a Bridesmaidzilla, and if so, how to avoid it.
