Planning A Proposal? Read This First!

 In Advice

If you’re reading this, then it’s highly likely that you’re planning a proposal to your sweetheart. And maybe you have no idea how to do it, or you’re looking for a few ideas. Now, traditionally the groom to be is looking to get down on one knee to pop the question. But this is the twenty-first century after all – and who run the world? Exactly. So don’t be afraid to flip this proposal on its head and make the first move ladies!

If you’re looking for a confidence boost, or you need some ideas, you’ve come to the right place. Because you get one shot at this. And it has to be right. It has to be right for you as a person and both of you as a couple. You’re going to want to be able to execute what’s playing out in your mind in real life. So to help you get started, here are a few more ideas for you to think about.

Planning a proposal. Ideas for the modern couple. Because it's okay for either one of you to propose!

Proposal – When

First of all, you’re going to want to think about when you want to do it. Or when you can propose if you feel that you have a limited window of opportunity. Try to think about dates in your mind first, maybe one that has significance to you as a couple. Knowing when will help you pick the best decisions to fit the proposal going forward.

Proposal – Where

But then, you need to think about where you’re going to do it. Will you be alone at home? Out to dinner? On a walk? Abroad on a vacation? Maybe if you know you want a destination wedding, doing it at home is a nice balance?

Try to think about what logistically works for your lifestyle. What you can plan that fits your budget and needs. It can be showstopping, but it doesn’t have to be. Because you don’t want your sweetheart to get suspicious, right?

Planning A Proposal. Lesbian couple at home.

Proposal – How

And then we have the how. How will you be doing? Do you want props? Do you want help? Do you need to stage anything? Really think about what will make you feel comfortable and what works best for you. Don’t feel pressured here. Choose what will be the best thing for you both.

Proposal – Who

Now this one might sound silly because of course you want yourself and your fiance-to-be to be there. BUT, that might not be all. Do you want family around you during your proposal? Do you want to be secluded? Do you want to make sure it’s documented in pictures?

Maybe you even want to look into doing an Italy photoshoot or hire a photographer wherever you’re doing it. That way you will have memories of the occasion to relive by photos. Just think about who you need around you in the moment to make it extra special.

Planning a Proposal. Couple on a mountain.

And one last thing…

Just go for it. Don’t sweat it or worry over it – because that’s how things go wrong. Just go with it. Enjoy it. You get this one shot to get it right, so own it. You’re going to do just fine!

Ooh also if you want surprise proposal pictures you need to think about crowdness of the place and the lighting! Great tips

I’ve always wished that I had a good proposal story to tell my kids. But although it wasn’t an elaborately planned event, I wound up with my best friend.

I love thoughtfully planned out proposals. Mine, unfortunately, was not planned out or even romantic. So, guys, listen up! We want you to use the suggestions above!

I wish mine was a great story. I proposed to him while we were laying in bed talking. We did get matching engraved engagement bands though.

I think you’re probably right about proposing at home if you’re thinking of a destination wedding, because an overwhelming number of my couples who get married in Central Park tell me that they got engaged at home, privately.
